M&S Porn Star Martini links alcohol to ‘sexual success

The Portman Group acted in lieu of a member of the public who expressed concern over the use of the words ‘porn star’ on the product, arguing the phrase was known to refer to those “idolised as people who have sexual success and are paid for doing so”.

The Independent Complaints Panel upheld the complaint but noted there was nothing else on the packaging, besides the name, to suggest any relation to sexual activity.

However, the panel compared the product to other retailers and online recipes for the drink, including on the BBC website, which called the same alcoholic drink a ‘Passion Fruit Martini’. Therefore, the panel concluded, Marks and Spencer “did not need to refer to the drink as ‘Porn Star Martini’.

A spokesperson from Marks and Spencer said: “Porn Star Martini is a common name for a passionfruit cocktail drink. Our product launched in September 2018 and quickly became one of our most popular cocktails.

“However, as a Portman Group co-signatory, we respect the ruling and will be changing the name to Passion Star Martini.”

The complaint was upheld under Code Rule 3.2(d), which states no drink should, in any direct or indirect way, suggest any association with sexual activity.

A spokesperson for Portman Group commented: “This decision by the Independent Complaints Panel reminds producers that they should always steer away from using imagery or names that are associated with sexual activity in marketing and labelling.

Vhali Dikri Yojna Full Detail Budget 2019-20 gujarat

Finance Minister Nitin Patel in his budget speech today announced a new scheme ‘Vhali Dikri Yojana’.

‘A girl child among first two children of family will get benefit of this scheme. Beneficiary girl child on her entry to first standard in school will get Rs. 4,000, in 9th standard she will get Rs. 6,000 and when she completes 18-year age she will get Rs. 1 lakh,’ Nitin Patel said.

He said the scheme will improve sex ratio, it will encourage girl child education and avail a big amount for higher education and wedding.

Gujarat Vhali Dikari Yojana is going to improve the birth rate of girls and will strengthen the socio-economic status of the girls in society. All the applicants must fulfill the following eligibility criteria to become eligible for Vahali Dikri Yojana:-

The scheme according to Patel will be availed to families with upto Rs. 2 lakh income per year.

The State government has made allocation of Rs. 133 crore for this scheme in financial year 2019-20 budget.

In an effort to increase the birth rate of girls and to combat female feticide, the Gujarat government has launched 'Vali Dairy Scheme' in the budget. After this, on 5 September 1997, Mother Teresa said goodbye to this world at the age of 87.

Celebrations all over the country:
Peace prayers were offered at the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata on Monday to pay tribute to Mother Teresa on her 109th birth anniversary. Scores of nuns gathered to offer prayer to the Nobel Prize winner by lighting candles at the flower-adorned grave.

"Mother was not concerned about the success, fame or power; she only belonged to Jesus. She served the poorest of the poor across the world and became the defender of the right to life for the unborn and challenged children, who were perceived as the burden to the society," a nun said in her eulogy.

In September 2017, Mother Teresa was declared Patron Saint of the Archdiocese of Calcutta by the Vatican Pope for her selfless service towards helping the underprivileged and poor in Kolkata.
