Apple Nominates PUBG Mobile in Two App Store ‘Best of 2018’ Awards Categories

PUBG Mobile, as we all know, is one of the most popular mobile games that are out right now. It was recently crowned as the ‘Best Game of 2018’ by Google. And now, PUBG Mobile is continuing its streak with two nominations from the App Store in its ‘Best of 2018’ awards.

Yes, PUBG Mobile was recognized by the App Store earlier this week in Apple’s “Game Trend of the Year”category representing the battle royale genre. In addition to that, it was also recognized in the “Top Games Charts of 2018” category as one of the most downloaded games.

Along with PUBG Mobile, titles like Fortnite, Clash Royale, Hearthstone, etc. have also been selected to represent the best battle royale games of the year.
PUBG Mobile, in my opinion, has a good chance of grabbing the award. It has surpassed 200 million downloads and sees over 30 million daily active users. What’s more impressive is that the title managed to achieve all this in just eight months after its launch. It is just as good as the PC version of the game, if not better, and I personally love playing the mobile version over the original PC title.

But that’s just me, and I’d like to know your thoughts on this. Which game do you prefer playing – PUBG Mobile or Fortnite? Let me know by dropping a comment down below.

Google Removes 22 Apps From Play Store Over Ad Fraud, Malware

Just a few days ago, Google removed Cheetah Mobile’s CM File Manager and Kika Tech’s Kika Keyboard apps from the Play Store after they were found running ad click fraud. Google has now kicked out 22 more apps from the Play Store that were engaged in click fraud, with one of them being a popular app with over a million downloads.

The apps contained malicious code and were discovered by Sophos. Besides allowing click fraud, these apps also had the capability to retrieve malicious files from their servers and used up a significantly high amount of data as well as battery power.

Some of the apps removed from the Play Store (Image Courtesy: Sophos)
The 22 apps were collectively downloaded over 2 million times from the Play Store and executed the ad fraud by creating fake ad requests. The ads were retrieved even while the apps were not being actively being used and generated a ‘click’ response on behalf of users, robbing the legitimate advertisers of a significant amount of ad revenue. But once details of Sophos’ findings were revealed, the apps were removed from the Play Store.
Following is a list of the apps that have been kicked out from the Android app repository:
  • Sparkle FlashLight
  • Snake Attack
  • Math Solver
  • ShapeSorter
  • Tak A Trip
  • Magnifeye
  • Join Up
  • Zombie Killer
  • Space Rocket
  • Neon Pong
  • Just Flashlight
  • Table Soccer
  • Cliff Diver
  • Box Stack
  • Jelly Slice
  • AK Blackjack
  • Color Tiles
  • Animal Match
  • Roulette Mania
  • HexaFall
  • HexaBlocks
  • PairZap
The apps are said to have used up a lot of data because they were continuously communicating with the home server in the background, which also led to the battery draining at a faster rate than usual. But the biggest worry is that the apps could install a malicious code or module from the connected server which can infect the smartphone with a virus, steal data, etc.
The apps had mostly positive reviews (Image Courtesy: Sophos)
Another issue is said that not many users are actually aware or concerned about the high data usage and battery consumption metrics of individual apps, which is why the apps did not generate any suspicions. Moreover, these apps mostly had positive reviews on the Play Store, which further allayed any doubts. If you have any of the above apps installed on your Android device, we recommend you to uninstall them as soon as possible and reset your phone to weed out existing malware.

Vivo NEX 2 Official Teasers Confirm Dual Display, Triple Camera, and More

Vivo NEX with its pop-up selfie camera kick-started the bezel-less, notch-less trend, but users had been wary about mechanical moving parts. Well, Vivo is now looking to totally eliminate the same by following Nubia’s lead and including two screens on the Vivo NEX successor.

The leaks for Vivo NEX 2, as the device is being referred to, started flooding the Internet last week, so the Chinese giant has decided to kill the anticipation by teasing the device through their official handle on Weibo.
Vivo has uploaded three GIFs, showing off the much-rumored dual screen setup, triple cameras on the rear, and the lunar ring, which is said to surround the circular Moto-like camera module. If you take a close look, you will see the front display warp into the second display on the rear – with the camera module cutting through the rear display.

In the other two GIFs, you can see the black orb transform into 3 cameras in the first one and the RGB lunar ring that will surround the rear camera module and could come in handy to relay notifications in the second one.
                                      Cameras
There’s no selfie camera on board here but the rear display, coupled with the triple rear-camera, solves that problem.
                                     Lunar Ring
Further, if you’ve been keeping up with the leaks, the teasers go on to confirm that the mystery deviceshown off by popular YouTube creator MrWhoseTheBoss is the Vivo NEX successor. Though the device is placed inside a black box and doesn’t show off the NEX successor in its entirety, you can get a brief look at the features in real-life.
With these teasers, Vivo has only confirmed what the leaks had been showing off, but there’s no specs out just yet. There’s no official word on the launch date either, which could potentially be around MWC 2019, so stay tuned for more leaks and rumors.
Until then, let us know your opinion on dual-display smartphones? Also, do tell us your expectations from the Vivo NEX 2 in the comments down below.

Oppo R17 Pro With Snapdragon 710 SoC, SuperVOOC Charging Launched in India at Rs 45,990

After much anticipation and teasing over the past few weeks, Oppo has today brought its well-known and innovative R-series to India with the launch of the Oppo R17 Pro. It is the first device powered by the Snapdragon 710 chipset to debut in India and brings along the company’s SuperVOOC charging technology in tow as well.

Price and Availability

Oppo R17 Pro comes only in one variant, with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage and has been priced at a whopping Rs 45,990. It will be available in 2 color variants, namely Radiant Mist and Emerald Green, and sold online exclusively via Amazon India. It will go on sale from December 7, with pre-orders beginning at midnight tonight.

Oppo R17 Pro Specs

Oppo R17 Pro is easily recognizable by its frost glass design on the rear and sports a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch (screen-to-body ratio of 91.5%) and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection on top on the front. It is powered by the Snapdragon 710 chipset, coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

The optics department is a major highlight of the R17 Pro as it’s the first Oppo device with a triple rear-camera module. It packs a triple rear-camera system with a 12MP (f/1.5-f/2.4) + 20MP (f/2.6) + TOF (time-of-flight) 3D stereo sensor, along with a 25MP (f/2.0) selfie camera on board.

One of the prominent features of the Oppo R17 Pro, however, is the SuperVOOC Flash Charge technology, where the power is maximized to 50W (10V, 5A) and two batteries that reside inside the device are charged simultaneously. You get the usual connectivity options, i.e Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, but no wireless charging and 3.5mm headphone jack.
To sum it all up, you can check out the complete specs sheet down below:

  • Dimensions :- 157.6 x 74.6 x 7.9 mm

  • Weight :- 183 grams

  • Display :- 6.4-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED

  • Processor :- Snapdragon 710

  • GPU :- Adreno 616

  • RAM :- 8GB

  • Internal Storage :- 128GB

  • Rear Cameras :- 12MP (f/1.5-f/2.4) + 20MP (f/2.6) + TOF (time-of-flight) 3D stereo camera, LED flash

  • Front Camera :- 25MP (f/2.0)

  • Operating System :- Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.2

  • Connectivity :- Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 5.0, A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC, USB Type-C

  • Sensors :- in-display fingerprint, E-Compass, Light and Proximity, Acceleration Sensor

  • Battery :- 3,650mAh (1850mAh + 1800mAh)

  • Colors :- Radiant Mist, Emerald Green

Well, the Oppo R17 Pro is definitely a stunner and packs a punch but the device seems to be heavily overpriced for a Snapdragon 710 chipset-powered device, which would be the first words out from the mouth of a consumer. What are your views on the same? Let us know in the comments down below.

Samsung Galaxy A8s With Infinity-O Display to Arrive on December 10

Just a few days ago, Chinese tipster @MMDDJ leaked the alleged renders of an upcoming Samsung smartphone called the Galaxy A8s that will feature a cutout located at the upper left corner of the screen. Samsung has today confirmed that the Galaxy A8s with an Infinity-O display will be announced in at an event in China on December 10.

The official Samsung Weibo account has shared an official poster for the device’s launch which gives us a clear look at the Infinity-O display of the Galaxy A8s, and truth be told, it looks gorgeous.

The Galaxy A8s is poised to become the world’s first smartphone to flaunt a punch-hole camera design which features a hole drilled in the display to house the selfie sensor.

Also, the Galaxy A8s will earn the distinction of introducing Samsung’s Infinity-O display design which is also expected to appear on the Galaxy S10flagship.

Samsung teased the Galaxy A8s back in October at the launch event of the Galaxy A6s and A9s in China, indicating that the upcoming smartphone will feature a truly bezel-less design and an in-display camera. As for the specs, the Galaxy A8s will reportedly be powered by the Snapdragon 710 SoC and will pack a triple rear camera set-up similar to the Galaxy A7.

It appears that Samsung is trying to steal the thunder from Huawei, Samsung’s arch-rival in the Chinese market, by launching the world’s first smartphone with an in-display camera. Earlier today, Huawei announced that it will launch the Nova 4 with a strikingly similar design and an in-display camera on December 17, which clearly indicates that Samsung is trying to one-up Huawei.

Just take a moment to look at the similarity between the front panel’s design of the Huawei Nova 4 and the Galaxy A8s. Aesthetics aside, the Nova 4 will reportedly be powered by the flagship 7nm Kirin 980 chipset which that also powers the Mate 20 Pro, paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.

Nokia 8.1 with Snapdragon 710 to Launch in India on December 10

HMD Global has scheduled an event in Dubai for December 5, where it is expected to launch at least three new smartphones. Based on numerous leaks and the general chatter on the internet, we can speculate that these will be the Nokia 2.1 Plus, Nokia 8.1 Plus, and the flagship Nokia 9 which is expected to come with five cameras.

A few days, later HMD Global is also holding an event in India early next month. While the company was earlier expected to launch the Nokia 7.1 Plus at this event, HMD launched the device yesterday without a lot of buzz or squandering, leaving us with the confirmation that the event will be dedicated to Nokia 8.1 instead. The event, which was earlier expected to take take place on December 6 has now been rescheduled to December 10.

We are already familiar with the Nokia X7, the preamble to the Nokia 8.1, which was launched in China in the month of October. The smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 710 and is available in three variants in China – 4GB+64GB, 6GB+64GB, and 6GB+128GB. We are not exactly sure which variants will be carried to India and will get to know only on December 10.
What we do know is that the Nokia 8.1 uses a couple of Zeiss-certified lenses on the rear dual cameras with the resolutions of 12-megapixel and 13-megapixels on the primary and the secondary sensors, respectively. Further, the primary sensor used on the smartphone is an IMX-363 by Sony, which HMD claims to be improved further by AI which can optimize lighting and contrast depending on the scene. Additionally, you get OIS and dual pixel technology for stable videos and crisps shots irrespective of lighting.

On the front, there’s a 20-megapixel single lens and the notch is unusually wider compared to other Nokia phones, such that the Nokia 8.1 gets an iPhone X-like appearance. Lastly, just like other Nokia phones in India, we expect the Nokia 8.1 to come with Android Pie under the Android One program.
As for the price is concerned, we don’t think HMD will be moved by the aggressive performance of companies like Xiaomi’s Poco. Since Nokia 7.1 Plus is priced at Rs 19,999, we expect Nokia 8.1 to be priced around the Rs 25,000 mark.
