Android 10 phones: List of smartphones getting Android 10 / Q update

Earlier this year, Google introduced the 17th version of the Android mobile operating system, which was internally called Android Q. The new OS is officially called Android 10 as Google has deserted desserts (pun intended) for Android version names. Along with making the beta version available for Pixel phones, for the first time ever, the search giant opened the beta iteration for the devices of 16 smartphone manufacturers, including Xiaomi, Sony, OnePlus and Realme. The Android 10 OS is expected to roll out within this quarter.
So if you are wondering if your phone will get the Android 10 update, then you are at the right spot. We have compiled the list of smartphones that are officially confirmed to enjoy the taste of the forthcoming Android Q. In case your phone isn’t on the list, then make sure to send us your comments in the box below, and bookmark this page, as we’ll continue to update it.

When will Android 10 released?
Android Pie went live on 6 August 2018 - that's when it was named and when the roll-out started. Since that timeframe for a 2019 launch has already passed, we're unsure exactly when Google plans to roll out Android 10. But in its 22 August rebrand announcement, it mentioned the release would happen in the "coming weeks".

That will allow the Android 10 to go live before the launch of Google's new hardware, the Pixel 4. Other manufacturers will then have to prepare Android Q for their own devices, which can take some time.

While confirmation of Android 10 updates and dates are yet to appear, we're starting to see some confirmations from manufacturers. Bear in mind that until the software is officially released, dates won't be available.

If your phone is included in the Android 10 beta, then you can give it a go now, but be warned that this isn't final release software.

Android Q: what's new
We're getting a better idea of the new Android 10 features to come thanks to the beta of Google's mobile operating system. Additional features and bug fixes have come with all the beta releases up through the sixth and final beta that came out in early August.

Some of the changes are confirmed, while others remain rumors. Here's what you can expected ahead of the official Android 10 release date in August.

· New Android 10 privacy features
· The Android Developer Blog post announcing the developer beta confirmed a heavy emphasis on boosting privacy in Android 10, a focus that was reaffirmed in the Google IO 2019 keynote.

· Users will have more control over app access to location info, shared files and repositories like Photos and Videos. Another helpful change: instead of apps automatically switching focus when they have an Activity in the background (like an alarm or call), appmakers can opt to send high-priority notifications first.

· Android 10 beta 3 also introduced a new feature – Scoped Storage – which allows users to control how apps access external storage (say, in a MicroSD card). It will also better protect users from being identified by restricting access to non-resettable device identifiers, like your phone's serial number and/or IMEI, and randomizing its MAC address when connected to different Wi-Fi networks.

· These might be some of the most onerous changes for developers in Android 10, which is why, as the Android Developers Blog post reads: "We are bringing these changes to you early, so you can have as much time as possible to prepare."

BUBBLES!

Similar to Facebook Messenger's Chat Heads, Bubbles will display small circular, floating alerts on top of whatever it is you're currently doing on your Android device. Users will have to approve each app that wants to use Bubbles as a notification method, so your screen shouldn't be overrun with alerts from every app you have installed.

SHARING SHORTCUTS
I think every Android user can relate to how slow the share sheet loads. Right now, you tap on the share button, and then have to count to ten while the various apps and shortcuts populate and rearrange themselves a handful of times. With Android 10, Google has created new tools that make it possible for the share sheet to load instantly.

DARK THEME
At I/O, Google confirmed an official Dark Theme is coming with Android 10. The new theme will darken the interface, reducing strain on your eyes as well as saving battery life.

LIVE CAPTION
For deaf users, Google is adding a Live Caption feature that will add subtitles to any video being watched on the phone. You won't need a data connection to use the feature -- it's all done on the device itself.

PARENTAL CONTROLS
Google's Digital Wellbeing tool is gaining support for tighter parental controls. Parents will be able to approve app installs, set screen time limits, create app limits, and set a bedtime.

FOLDABLE SCREEN SUPPORT
With devices like the Galaxy Fold and Huawei X coming, Android 10 includes features to better support for detecting when an app has been paused (perhaps when a display is folded) and when it needs to be resumed (after opening the device), as well as enhanced support for resizing of apps.

DEPTH INFORMATION FROM PHOTOS
Google's Pixel line of phones does a fantastic job of capturing depth in a photo despite only having one camera. Google is integrating some of that technology into Android 10, giving developers and device makers access to the image and the Dynamic Depth captured alongside it through new tools.

GESTURE NAVIGATION
Android 10 adds gestural navigation to the Android platform. Instead of using the staple navigation buttons Android has always had, users swipe and gesture across the screen to go back, return to the home screen, open the app drawer, and trigger Google Assistant. In the final beta release, Google continued to tweak and change how gestures behave in Android 10 -- and then tried to explain its reasoning.

MORE DEVELOPER OPTIONS
If terms like Native MIDI API, ANGLE on Vulkan, or Neural Networks API 1.2 are more your thing, then be sure to read through the bottom section of this Android Developers blog post, where the company details those new features, along with new Wi-Fi performance modes, improved peer-to-peer and internet connectivity.

Live Caption, and more
One of several accessibility features announced at Google IO 2019, Live Caption does what it says on the tin – captioning video and audio in real-time. The feature doesn't require an internet connection, transcribing text from the device's own speech recognition and NLP.

On the Google IO 2019 stage, we saw Live Caption used in combination with Live Transcribe to input incoming audio to text, then have a user text a response which was spoken. In the demonstration, the combo – called Live Relay – allows a texting user to interact on a phone call without ever speaking a word.

The last accessibility feature coming to Android 10 is Project Euphonia, which aims to improve Android's verbal recognition to better process words spoken by users with speech impediments.

Android 10: What happened to Q?
· The letter Q was up next

· Google usually names Android OS updates around a dessert

· Google changed its approach to Android naming

We had plenty of guesses and ideas concerning what the Q in Android Q could stand for, but Google opted to ditch the dessert naming scheme altogether and move to a numbering scheme. Android Q is now Android 10, and going forward, we can expect numbers over sweets.
